The 2024 GRAMMY Awards are approaching. The 66th annual event will be hosted by comedian, producer and political commentator Trevor Noah for the fourth time. During this Recording Academy curated show, performers and attendees will represent a range of music genres, talents and backgrounds.

We can’t wait to spotlight these remarkable creators and celebrate another amazing year in music on Feb. 4.”
Award shows tend to evoke a lot of emotions from artists to fans a like as viewers often share their opinions on the fairness of selections. So how are the nominees and winners selected? Here are a few things you should know ahead of watching the 2024 Grammys:
1. Who votes for the GRAMMY nominees and winners?
Recording Academy members and record companies enter recordings and music videos released during the eligibility year which they consider worthy of recognition in the GRAMMY Awards process. The Recording Academy’s voting members decide the GRAMMY nominees and recipients. This cohort is comprised of music creators, including artists, producers, songwriters, and engineers.
In a recent press release, the Academy reported 2,400+ diverse music creators have joined the Recording Academy® as part of the organization’s 2023 New Member Class. Furthermore, it headlines that 50 percent of this class are people of color.
The Academy exclusively reported to What’s Hot that approximately 1700 members of the 2023 Class are voting members. Their participation in the voting process will help decide the winners of the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards in February.
2. What is the eligibility period for nominees?
To be eligible for a GRAMMY recordings must have been released between October 1, 2022 and September 15, 2023.
3. How many categories are there?
There are 94 GRAMMY categories that acknowledge everything from sound tracks to spoken word projects. Three new categories will debut at the 2024 GRAMMYs: Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording.
Another release reads, “These history-making category additions are part of a larger set of updates and amendments, which go into effect immediately at the 2024 GRAMMYs, aimed at making the GRAMMY Awards process ‘more fair, transparent and accurate,’ according to Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr.“
4. Who has the most Grammy Award nominations?
As announced by the Recording Academy, leading 2024 Grammy nominees include SZA (9), Phoebe Bridgers (7), Serban Ghenea (7), Victoria Monét (7), Jack Antonoff (6), Jon Batiste (6), boygenius (6), Brandy Clark (6), Miley Cyrus (6), Billie Eilish (6), Olivia Rodrigo (6), and Taylor Swift (6).
5. When are the winners selected?
Currently in the GRAMMY Awards process, Final Round Voting is taking place, which will determine the GRAMMY winners across all GRAMMY categories at the 2024 GRAMMYs. The voting period opened on Thursday, December 14, 2023, and closes Thursday, January 4, 2024.
