A live-action Snow White is hitting theaters on March 21! Watch the trailer with me for a look at this enchanting reimagined classic stirring up some drama among fans. “What drama?” you may ask.

When creatives try and remix or modernize beloved classics, OG fans are typically skeptical or resistant to change and adaptation. This case is no different. Snow White fans have taken to the trailer’s YouTube comments to express their prejudices, general disdain, and frustrations with the animation and princess’ hair.

Check out some of the criticism below:

“We thankfully have the technology nowadays to make the animation look worse than the original from 1937”

“Bad dress Bad acting Bad actress But the comment section is so entertaining I’d pay to just watch the comments roll on the screen”

“The names of the seven dwarfs are: pixelated, blurry, glitchy, badly rendered, fakey, unpolished and unconvincing”

“Someone [in] this comment section said Rachel Zegler looks like Lord Farquaad and now I can’t unsee it.”

Lord Farquaad is a character from Dreamworks’ Shrek film.

“Name: snow white Skin color: snow white Actor’s skin: honey brown…Bad casting will be the end of Disney, they don’t seem to learn.”

IMDB also reports, “David Hale Hand, son of David Hand, the original supervising director of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), does not like how modernization is being brought into this new version.”

While I mentioned the oddity of Snow White’s hairstyle and the dwarves in my trailer reaction, many commenters expressed hate without reason. This makes me question if it’s just racists annoyed that the actress selected for the role wasn’t white. Given the current political climate and the hate received for the live-action Little Mermaid, I’m saddened but certainly not surprised.

Despite the flood of hate comments, the film’s star actress reacted optimistically when discussing it during in an interview.

“I interpret people’s feelings about this film as passion for it, and what an honor to be able to be a part of something that people are so passionate about,” Zegler told Vogue Mexico via Toonado. “We’re not always going to have the same feelings as everyone around us and all we can do is give our best.”

Sending prayers and positive energy to the cast and creators during these discouraging and unprecedented times.

With Sizzling Love,
